What's Microblading?
Microblading is a specialised semi-permanent makeup technique used to reshape and enhance the eyebrows so they bring out the best of your clients' features, creating a naturally attractive framework for the eyes. Individual hairs are drawn with precision tools using pigments that mimic the eyebrow's natural colour and texture. If you've ever seen someone with perfect eyebrows, chances are they had a microblading treatment.
Microblading is a semi-permanent makeup solution for anyone suffering from thinning or over-plucked brows.

- First, you and your therapist discuss what shape eyebrows you want and pencil this shape on your eyebrow.
- Then any excess hair outside this shape is removed.
- Next, a topical cream is applied to numb the skin.
- Then, using tiny needles, the pigment is inserted into the upper layers of the skin in strokes that resemble hair follicles.
- Once both brows are finished, the excess pigment is wiped away.
Microblading and Ombre Shading
Micro Blading and Shading is amazing! This treatment is becoming more and more popular as many clients have patch loss and this is the perfect solution for this.
It is a treatment that is perfect for almost every skin type , age and skin colour
Microblading is hair strokes and shading is essentially adding a soft powder effect. When you combine the two together it creates a stunning looking eye brow . It is ideal for creating slightly heavier definition , the type that is normally created from drawing on the brow everyday, however the beauty of this treatment is that it still avoids the tattooed block look that can often be unnatural .
The Microblading hair strokes normally sit at the front and top of the brow for a soft and natural effect while the shading goes in at the base or the base to mid brow . This covers the areas that have been over plucked and left with patch loss creating the stronger definition.
Shading is a very versatile procedure and can be applied anywhere on the brow to achieve your required look. Its also great for covering scars.
Microblading and Shading together can also create the Ombre ( lighter to darker) effect for example natural and lighter at the front and then stronger / darker at the base and tail of the eyebrow.
All eyebrows will appear darker on initial completion , however once healed will soften and lighten to its desired colour. The fading during the healing phase will be about 30 - 40 %
The procedure takes around 2 hours depending on the condition of your eyebrows . As it is a semi permanent procedure the pigment will remain in your skin for around 2 - 4 years depending on your skin type , however we do recommend an annual colour boost.
We will always explain and identify everything carefully when doing the pre drawings and will advise what will be the most suitable
What is the difference between Microblading and Ombre Shading?
While microblading is done to create hair-like strokes within the brow, ombre shading is done to create a soft powdered look within the brow. Both methods are done using the same type of ink and require at least two appointments (an initial appointment and a follow up 4 - 6 weeks later).
Does cosmetic tattooing hurt?
A topical anesthetics are used to maximize your comfort during any cosmetic tattooing procedure, however pain tolerance varies from client to client. Receiving the procedure during your menstrual cycle may increase your sensitivity.
How long will my cosmetic tattoo last?
Cosmetic tattooing is considered "semi-permanent" as it does not wash away, however pigments are designed to fade over time. Factors such as skin type, pigment colour (lighter colours fade faster), products used on the skin, and sun exposure can affect the rate at which these pigments are broken down. For best results it is recommended that you follow our aftercare instructions and touch-up your tattoo every 1-2 years. Microblading requires a minimum of two sessions. Touch-ups are normal and expected for cosmetic tattoo procedures.
*Please note that final results CAN NOT be guaranteed as everyone retains and breaks down pigment differently and a follow-up appointment is recommended at 4-6 weeks where we can assess your pigment retention and make any changes necessary. People with lighter hair, correction work or sparse eyebrows may require more than one follow-up to reach their desired look at an additional cost.
What factors will affect my cosmetic tattoo?
- Bleeding during the procedure: Excessive bleeding during your procedure will greatly affect how your body retains pigment. While this is not entirely in our control, it is important that you follow prep instructions to help minimize bleeding. This includes avoiding blood thinning medications, alcohol and caffeine before your procedure.
- Smoking: Smokers may notice that their tattoo will fade faster
- Sun exposure: Increased exposure to the sun will cause premature fading.
- Colour of pigment: Lighter colours fade more quickly than darker colours.
- Skin Care Products: Exfoliating products (typically for Acne or Anti-Aging) will cause pigments to fade.
- If you prefer to have your eyebrows waxed/threaded please do so at least 48 hours before your appointment, otherwise we can remove stray hairs after we design your brows.
- You must not use Retin-A near the tattooed area before or after the procedure
- Do not work out the day of your appointment.
- You cannot take any medications that may thin your blood (i.e. Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Fish Oil, and Vitamin E) 72 hours before or immediately after your procedure.
- Do not drink alcohol the night before or day of your procedure.
- Avoid caffeine the day of your appointment.
Doing any of the above may cause bleeding, which will affect how well your body retains pigment.
As with every tattoo, we recommend avoiding pools, salt water and extreme sun exposure for at least two weeks following your appointment, so make vacation plans accordingly!
